Recycling is great and you should always recycle what you can. However, recycling is also expensive, so it is best to reuse if possible.
Last April I decided to make a bigger effort in making Green choices. I began saving items I thought I could find a use for in the future. One of the items I’ve been saving are tin cans from any canned food items I’ve used. I knew early on that they’d be perfect for storing items in my studio and this idea proved to be correct.
I was anxious to get my studio together that I just used masking tape to label the cans. Not very pretty but the cans really serve their purpose.
I’m not sure if you remember but a few weeks ago on a trip to Goodwill I brought home some sticker card stock that I knew would come in handy. Well their time to shine arrived and they performed wonderfully. After a few hours with my Cricut, paint and ModPodge, my storage cans looked much better.
I set up my trusty Cricut and using the sticker card stock and some nice green scrapbook paper and cut up some labels. The card stock part needed an extra something so I used some stain and a foam brush and brushed the edges.
Then using the same pretty green scrap-book paper I cut up some strips and cut the sticker card stock to size and stuck them on the cans.
Pretty huh?!?! I think they look much better.
Shopping second-hand and reusing any items like these tin cans are a great way to show our planet you care. I LOVE DIYers because most of this wonderful community makes green choices all the time, some may not even realizing it, by restoring old furniture and prettifying second-hand items. Whether they do it consciously for the planet or not doesn’t really matter because it still benefits everyone in the end.
So reuse when possible. Come up with creative ideas to reuse items most people throw away. Challenge yourself to do something creative with unexpected items. Share them with the world. If you can’t think of a way to reuse them offer them to someone who might. If you cannot reuse and cannot give to someone else then of course RECYCLE!!!
Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others and be kind to our planet. Let’s all do our part. Small changes make a BIG difference.
P.s. Sorry this post came a day late. I’m still ill and ended up in bed majority of the day. I did say I’d post this earlier knowing I wasn’t feeling well and for that I apologize.

Some of us brand new crafters don’t have a cricut or anything like that to make these labels… Other than printing them off on line – do you have any other suggestions besides masking tape and card stock? Thanks. Love the site.
