The Hunger Games movie

I first heard of The Hunger Games a month or so ago when I saw the movie trailer. I didn’t know it was a book series but as soon as I saw the trailer I knew I wanted to see it. It didn’t take long for me to learn it was a book series and I really wanted to read it. I hoped I would get to read the first book before seeing the movie but it didn’t happen. I had just purchased The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and didn’t want to start a new book.

NOTE: I will be as vague as possible so as not to spoil it for anyone while giving my honest opinion on the movie.

We went to see the movie last Friday and I was SUPER excited. Having not read the book I just didn’t know what to expect. My point of view on the movie comes as a movie goer and not a fan of the book. That said, it didn’t live up to my expectations but it wasn’t bad. My husband and brother thought it was okay but both were falling asleep, lol.

I kept an open mind but I expected…more. It felt like it was moving fast. The fight scenes seemed dull, I didn’t feel there was real chemistry between Katniss and Peeta, and I don’t feel they did a good job with making me fall in love with the characters. I don’t plan on watching it again.

At least not until I read the book. Knowing the real story behind the characters will make me see the movie from a different perspective. I think some fans of the book may have loved the movie because they knew the characters already, so I’m hoping it will be the same for me.

The storyline seems amazing and I can’t wait to read it. I only just started reading The Girl Who Played with Fire but I’m so anxious to find out what happened in the Hunger Games series that I’m thinking of putting my current book aside for a bit.

Have you seen The Hunger Games?? What did you think?? Were you a fan of the book before watching the movie?? I’d like to know your thoughts on the subject, but no spoilers pretty please. :)

UPDATE:

So, I finally read The Hunger Games. OMG I could not put it down. It’s such an amazing story and reading the books completely changed my view on the movie. I saw it again and it made complete sense to me. I know that Jennifer Lawrence is an amazing actress having seen Winter’s Bone, I think she is amazing but when I first saw her as Katniss  she just didn’t make sense to me. I didn’t make the connection with her purposely faking her love for Peeta. It looked fake and off to me but I just didn’t realize that’s exactly what it was supposed to look like. Which brings me to Peeta, during the entire movie I kept wondering about him. I felt like he had a hidden agenda and it just didn’t become clear to me until I read the book. Loving both movie and books now I don’t feel guilty for my initial feelings about the movie. As I was walking out of the theater I heard many movie goers expressing the same feelings I had. So I know I’m not the only one who felt let down and confused at first.  I know that books are always better than movies but I can’t wait until Catching Fire. November 2013 can’t come soon enough.

  Check out where I party!!

Til next time,
♥ Karla
